The Southern Dike Tour is one of two bicycle tours we offer that include the Almere dikes. The Southern Dike tour is a bit more quirky fun than the Northern Dike tour which is focused more on nature.

Here we combine the fun of riding a Spartamet with some of the unique and unusual sites and places in Almere.

Sights:

Almere Stad – A tour of the Weerwater. A look at some of Almere’s famous architecture. Insight into the unique advantages of a planned city.
The Castle That Never Was – Almere’s own medieval castle!
Kemphaan – Zip Lines, Frisbee Golf, & Monkeys. Yes, Monkeys.
The Pyramid House – No need to go to Eqypt to see a pyramid
Gooimeerdijk – RIde along the dijk on a Spartamet!
Almere Haven – The beautiful Almere Haven Harbor.

9:00AM Itinerary

8:45AM – 9:00 AM: Preparations for Tour

Before the tour starts there are a few things to do.

Meet & Greet
Sign rental agreement & show valid ID/License
Instruction on basic Snorfiets operation and safety

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Almere Stad

We will talk a quick walking tour to check out the architecture of Almere Stad and see some of the unique things that only a planned city can have. Like trash cans that suck the trash away like giant vacuums! Much of Almere Stad City mall is a bike free zone so this quick walking tour will quickly familiarize you with the city center area. After the tour you can go back to the shop or restaurant you saw during this quick walking tour.

9:30AM – 10:00 AM: Almere Stad to Castle Never Was

We grab the bikes and head out of Almere stad along the weerwater to the Castle that Never Was. It’s a medieval castle that has had a sorry history and soon may be invaded by Trollz!

10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Kemphaan

From the castle we head over to Kemphaan. Here are ziplines and frisbee golf courses for fun, a monkey rehabilitation center, and an indoor tropical forest.

10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Paramids & Dijks

From Kemphaan we stop to see an Egyptian pyramid house, a horse farm, and take a ride along the Gooimeerdijk to Almere Haven

In Almere Haven we will check out the beautiful Almere Haven Harbor area and maybe have time for some pancakes or poffertjes on the Pancake boat.

11:30 AM: Almere Centrum

We bike back along the weerwater and the tour ends back at Almere Centrum Station. From here you can walk and tour the City Mall. Grab a bus to Kemphaan, or take the train to Amsterdam and other parts of the Netherlands wilderness.
